a bit about me

I'm Sophie Jean. I was born and raised in a small town in western Wisconsin near the St. Croix River and I use the phrases "neat", "nifty", and "better buckle up" excessively. I have been taking photos for roughly seven years and I am completely in love with it. I live for the moments when clients become friends and when those friends are able to look at a photo of themselves and love what they see. I believe that photos should make you feel and that getting your photo taken shouldn't be an awkward, staged, rigid moment.

I also believe that no one should hire a photographer solely off of their work. Of course you should like their style, but you should also like them as a person. Hire someone who will help you feel comfortable in front of the camera, who wants to be your friend, who you feel that you could get along with. When you're having a moment documented, your photographer is there for all of it. Make sure that it's someone you want along for the ride.

some snip-its about me

  • I have a mini poodle named Futon and he is my darling.
  • My hometown of River Falls, WI is my forever town. It and the surrounding area are where I belong. Many key moments in my life and some of my favorite memories have taken place along the neighboring St. Croix River.
  • I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where I received degrees in both computer science and data science. I now work full-time in the IT world so my life as a part-time photographer is definitely my much-needed creative outlet.
  • Tea, black coffee, sparkling water, Chipotle, and homemade soups all hold special places in my heart.
  • I'm a nineties baby (but barely, I was born in 1999).
  • My favorite bands are NeedToBreathe, First Aid Kit, and The Score. I'll listen to just about any genre, just not metal or some rap.
  • Most of the time, I'm wearing any one (or more) of the following:
  • a trusty pair of birks or blundstones
  • one of my beloved flannels or crewnecks
  • my wedding ring on my left hand and my Miraculous Medal ring on my right
  • I love adventures and being outdoors. Whether it's hiking, road-tripping, boating, paddle boarding, ice fishing, backpacking, or anything in between, you can always count me in.
  • I am saved, freed, and redeemed in Christ alone.
